About Cheshire & Merseyside LDCs

Local Dental Committees (LDCs)

LDCs are funded through the statutory levy and represent the interests of NHS dentists in their area.

Five LDCs cover the Area of Cheshire and Merseyside, made up of nine places. They are as follows:

The LDCs remain separate entities but work together for the benefit of all NHS dentists across Cheshire and Merseyside.

In addition to local representation LDCs participate in national events such as LDC conference and BDA Officials’ Day. This ensures our national negotiators are connected to, and representative of, local dentists. Our GDPC representatives also regularly attend LDC meetings.

Cheshire & Merseyside ICB

The Integrated Care Board (ICB) is responsible for commissioning NHS healthcare throughout Cheshire and Merseyside.

The whole area of Cheshire and Merseyside is known as the “System”. This is split down into local “Places” – Cheshire East / West, Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helen’s, Warrington and Wirral. LDCs have representation on the System Primary Care Committee, and the Local Dental Network which work at System level.

Dentistry is commissioned at System level, with Places having minimal input currently into service delivery. Prevention is commissioned by local authorities at Place level. LDCs have representation in some Places to raise the profile of dentistry locally, as well as promote innovation in joined up services.
